Personal Life

Lenny Bruce was born Leonard Alfred Schneider on October 13th, 1925, in Mineola, New York.  Growing up with divorced parents, and rarely seeing his father meant he would accompany his mother to her job as a stage performer. His mother would greatly influence his interest and success in show business.

This moment in Lenny Bruce’s career would go on to greatly impact how comedians performed. This show challenge all American comedians First Amendment rights in the 1960s.

Controversial Comedy Style

Lenny Bruce received criticisms for his controversial comedy style. He developed a comedy style known as Black Humor, which criticized topics that society deemed taboo to talk about in the 1960s.
